About TEDx
What is TEDx?
A good question! And one that we have to answer quite frequently.
TED is short for Technology, Entertainment and Design. It's a non-profit organisation in the USA, devoted to creative ideas. Ideas that are worth spreading across the world. Here's the Wikipedia page. TED organises a four-day conference every year, where people from all over the world come to talk about creative ideas.
In the spirit of these ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxFlanders, where x = independently organized TED event. Anybody can start their own TEDx event. As of 2010, about 750 TEDx events will happen in over 60 countries. And ours is one of them!
At our TEDxFlanders event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in small groups. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. We love creativity, original ideas and sharing them with others!
